Referees and ABA League "AdmiralBet" fail to reach agreement after long talks
After a more than three‑hour meeting referees will vote at 10:00 a.m.; the result — due by noon — will decide if the second round can go ahead.
Negotiations between the management of the ABA League "AdmiralBet" and the competition referees failed to produce a settlement, leaving the staging of the second round of the regional tournament under serious doubt.
The meeting yesterday lasted more than three hours, but no agreement was reached. The referees were given time to respond to the league’s offer and are scheduled to vote on the proposal today at 10:00 a.m.; a reply is expected by noon.
The league offered a certain increase in compensation for match officials, but there is as yet no confirmation whether the referees will accept the proposed terms.
Background of the dispute
The disagreement began after referees requested improvements to their financial conditions. In parallel, ABA League AdmiralBet published a call for new referees, and after selections were made some candidates withdrew from the engagement, which created additional tensions.
Representatives of the referees attended the talks together with a lawyer who represents their interests, but even hours of discussion did not produce a final solution.
The outcome of the referees’ vote will determine whether the regional competition can continue the season according to the newly prepared schedule.
