Storm in Skopje caused cracks in the new Serava riverbed; damages will now be repaired
Mayor Darko Kostovski ordered the contractor to repair the cracks and damages by activating the 10-year warranty.
The severe storm with strong winds that hit Skopje about ten days ago caused cracks and other damage to the new stone bed of the Serava River, which was renovated last year in the municipality of Butel, the municipal administration reports.
Immediate activation of the warranty and order for repairs
Mayor Darko Kostovski said that after the storm damages were observed and that the 10-year warranty was activated so that the contractor can fix the detected defects.
"This project must remain one of the most beautiful built during the period I am mayor of Butel," Kostovski said.
The construction of the Serava riverbed began at the end of 2023, and in March 2025 the construction of an 800-meter trim trail, new lighting and urban equipment also began. In the first phase 1,500 meters of riverbed were arranged, and with the second phase another 300 meters were added in the settlement of Radishani - which finally completed 1,800 meters of arranged stone riverbed.
"With this we complete 1,800 meters of arranged stone riverbed! We are investing 65 million denars in arranging the riverbed and the construction of a trim trail!" Kostovski then announced.
In June of this year it was announced that the Municipality, in cooperation with the City of Skopje, had started activities for the construction of a pedestrian path and the cleaning of the Serava riverbed in the Butel 1 area. The municipality emphasizes that after more than 20 years one of the biggest demands of the residents is being realized and that the project foresees a new path 1,590 meters long, new lighting, benches, horticultural arrangements and new playgrounds.
After only about three years from the start of the works, the severe storm caused cracks and other damages which the contractor will have to remove. Municipal representatives add that in the coming period it will be determined whether the damages are the result of the extreme weather or possible deficiencies in the execution.
