Nikola Gjorgjev signs for Neuchâtel Xamax
The North Macedonian international returns to Switzerland after a spell with Farense in Portugal.
Nikola Gjorgjev has completed a move to Neuchâtel Xamax, returning to Switzerland after his most recent spell in Portugal with Farense.
The 28-year-old attacker—formerly a North Macedonia U21 international who helped his country reach the youth European Championship in Poland in 2017—joins Xamax as the club looks to strengthen its squad ahead of the new season.
Career path
Gjorgjev’s senior career has included periods at FC Zürich, Grasshoppers, FC Twente, FC Aarau and FC Schaffhausen before he moved to Portugal to play for Farense. He also earned five appearances for the North Macedonia senior national team.
His return to Swiss football is framed as a homecoming of sorts: Gjorgjev developed as a player in Switzerland and now re-enters a familiar environment where he spent much of his professional life.
The transfer was confirmed on 01.08.2026 13:15 and represents the next chapter for the forward as he seeks regular playing time and aims to contribute to Xamax’s ambitions.
Club officials have yet to release detailed terms of the contract, but supporters expect Gjorgjev’s experience across several European leagues to be an asset for the team.
