New earthquake felt in Tetovo–Gostivar area, magnitude ML2.5
The Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje recorded a quake on August 15, 2026 at 16:10 with epicenter in the Tetovo–Gostivar area.
A new earthquake was felt on August 15, 2026 at 16:10 in the Tetovo–Gostivar epicentral area, the Seismological Observatory at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Mathematics in Skopje reported.
The event was recorded with a local Richter magnitude, ML2.5, and its epicenter was located in the Tetovo–Gostivar area, roughly 47 kilometres southwest of Skopje.
"The earthquake was felt by residents of the city of Gostivar and the surrounding area, with an intensity of III-IV degrees on the European Macroseismic Scale," the statement adds.
The Observatory provided the precise time of the tremor — 16:10 local time — and the magnitude value ML2.5 in its afternoon bulletin released on August 15, 2026 at 18:27.
Although small in magnitude, the quake was perceptible locally in Gostivar and neighbouring settlements where observers rated shaking at III–IV EMS. Authorities have not issued additional bulletins beyond the initial observational note.
The Seismological Observatory continues to monitor seismic activity in the region and will update the public if further information becomes available.
