New heavy strike on Kyiv kills three, including a child

At least three people, including a child, were killed overnight in a Russian strike on Kyiv and its surrounding region, city officials said. The deaths were reported in the Brovary district east of the capital, where authorities also said three more people were wounded and residential buildings, vehicles and outbuildings were damaged.

Explosions and fires across the capital

Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv's city administration, confirmed the casualties and described the impact on the suburban district. "Russia continues to terrorize the civilian population," he said.

Emergency crews reported that a fire also broke out in a non-residential building and that responders remained at the scene working to extinguish blazes and secure damaged property.

Ukrainian air force units warned residents of waves of unmanned aerial vehicles approaching Kyiv shortly after midnight. Journalists on the ground said the first explosions were heard at approximately 00:45 local time, with a new round of blasts less than 15 minutes later. Around 3:00 a.m., while rescue teams were tackling fires in Brovary, additional explosions were reported and ballistic missiles struck the capital.

The recent attack on Brovary comes while the local community is still recovering from a previous mass strike that killed eight people on a railway platform — one of the deadliest blows to Brovary since the start of the war.

State emergency services in Kyiv also reported separate fires: two garage fires and a blaze in a commercial building in the Holosiivskyi district, and another fire that was extinguished in the industrial area of Obolonskyi. Separate reports say warehouses in the wider Kyiv area were hit with ballistic missiles and cluster munitions, with figures indicating 17 people killed and 44 injured. Fighting has also intensified along the front in the Kharkiv and Donetsk regions, according to those situational reports.
