New Threat: Following Skopje's Devastating Storm, Another Dangerous Wave Approaches

Just hours after the capital suffered serious damage from a severe storm that left devastation in its wake, meteorological services are raising the alarm about a new instability approaching Macedonian territory. According to the latest forecasts, the atmospheric front that passed through Montenegro during the day is now heading directly towards our country via Kosovo and Albania.

Experts from the Hydrometeorological Service point out that this time the main risk will not be the strong winds that previously caused problems. Instead, heavy torrential rains accompanied by frequent electrical discharges are expected, as well as a real possibility of hail in certain regions. Such weather conditions require a serious approach and timely preparedness from all citizens in order to minimize potential damage.

Due to the severity of the situation, the Directorate for Protection and Rescue has issued an urgent call to the population for increased vigilance. It is recommended to completely avoid moving in open spaces during the precipitation. Citizens are strictly advised not to seek shelter under isolated trees due to the high danger of lightning strikes. Additionally, motor vehicle owners are urged to find suitable and safe shelter for their cars if possible.

To prevent major flooding in urban areas, competent institutions remind of the importance of maintaining the patency of drainage systems. Citizens are asked not to block canals and catch basins, as well as to timely remove or secure all light objects from their terraces and yards that could be carried away by the storm. For all emergencies and potential hazards, the toll-free telephone number 112 is available.
