Novak Djokovic advances to Beijing final after Daniil Medvedev is defaulted
At 7–5, 5–3 Djokovic had a serve for victory when Medvedev accidentally struck a spectator and was defaulted.
05.10.2026 16:15 — Novak Djokovic progressed to the final of the ATP tournament in Beijing after an extraordinary finish to his match against Daniil Medvedev.
Djokovic had been controlling the contest and reached a match point situation while leading 7–5, 5–3 and holding serve. In the tense final moments, Medvedev misplayed a ball that struck a spectator in the stands.
Match ends with a default
The incident, though apparently accidental, resulted in Medvedev being defaulted from the match. The default handed Djokovic an automatic place in the tournament final.
Throughout the match Djokovic showed the kind of consistency and court command he has displayed at his best, while Medvedev increasingly appeared unsettled and unable to change the momentum.
In the final Djokovic will meet Australian Alex de Minaur.
