New details about the accident in which President Nata Pirc Musar was injured

The Slovenian police released additional information about the traffic accident last Friday in which President Nataša Pirc Musar was involved while returning from Croatia.

Authorities state that the collision was caused by failure to maintain the required safety distance in the official convoy. According to the police report, the 52-year-old driver of the Mercedes V300 in which the President was traveling did not keep sufficient distance and with the front of his vehicle struck the rear of an Audi, which was part of the official escort and was driven by a 34-year-old driver.

Procedure and testing

Alcohol and drug tests for both drivers were negative. The driver who was operating the President's car is suspected of causing a traffic accident through negligence. The police confirmed that they notified the competent department of the Specialized State Prosecutor's Office and submitted all the documentation, and that the procedure is being conducted under Article 323 of the Slovenian Criminal Code.

The accident occurred on Friday, shortly before 17:00, in the Kastelec tunnel on the motorway heading towards Ljubljana. The President sustained minor injuries, and according to unofficial information, she broke her collarbone.

One of her two companions sustained serious injuries. Besides the driver, there were four other persons in the vehicle: the President, security, and two companions. The injured were transported to Izola General Hospital, and the President's Office announced that Pirc Musar was released to home care on Saturday.

The total material damage is estimated at around 37,000.
