New setback for Zidane: Ibrahima Konaté injured, Leny Yoro called up

24 September 2026 — France's preparations for a key Nations League match against Turkey have been disrupted after central defender Ibrahima Konaté was ruled out through injury.
The French Football Federation (FFF) announced that Konaté, currently on Real Madrid's roster, experienced knee pain during training and immediately underwent an MRI scan.
The scan revealed a minor strain to his right knee. Although the federation described the injury as not serious, the defender will not be available for the upcoming fixture.
Squad decision and replacement
In an official statement the federation said: "By mutual agreement with the staff and after cordial talks between the doctors of the 'Tricolores' and the doctor of Real Madrid, the player is today made available to his club."
To replace Konaté in the squad, France have called up young talent Leny Yoro. Yoro has previously featured for the under-21 team and has trained at the national centre in Clairefontaine.
Coaching staff and the club medical team will continue to monitor Konaté’s condition, with the federation stressing that the decision to return him to Real Madrid was taken jointly.
