Russian strikes on Kyiv: one woman killed, eight injured

Russian overnight ballistic missile strikes hit Kyiv and its suburbs, killing one person and injuring eight, Ukraine's State Emergency Service reported. Officials said the attacks affected at least three districts of the capital.

Damage across multiple districts

On the left bank in the Desnianskyi area, a residential building caught fire and a nearby metro station was damaged. Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a 21-year-old woman was found dead at the scene of that blaze.

"As a result of the enemy attack, one of the metro stations on the left bank of the capital was damaged. Also, near the station, due to the strike by debris, the running and contact rails were broken," Klitschko wrote on Telegram.

In the Solomianskyi district, a medical facility caught fire and debris from the strike damaged the façade and glazing of a 25-storey residential tower. Klitschko said five people were injured there; one was hospitalised and the others received on-scene medical care.

The State Emergency Service added that an educational institution in the Dnipro district was also damaged by the strikes.

Emergency responders continue working in the affected neighbourhoods as authorities investigate the full extent of the damage and casualties.
