Novo Selo: Drinking water contaminated in several villages after storm
Municipality warns residents in several settlements not to use tap water while chlorination and testing proceed.
Municipal authorities in Novo Selo have reported contamination of the drinking water supply affecting the villages of Sushica, Zubovo, Drazhevo, Borisovo, Koleshino and Novo Konjarevo, as well as Prvomajska Street in Novo Selo.
“We inform you that as a result of last week's storm, interruptions in the electricity and water supply, a minimal contamination of the drinking water has occurred in Sushica, Zubovo, Drazhevo, Borisovo, Koleshino, Novo Konjarevo and Prvomajska Street in Novo Selo. Citizens are asked not to use the water for drinking in the coming days while chlorination and purification are carried out, until further analyses and confirmations are obtained from the doctors at the Public Health Institution Health Center, Strumica,” the municipality said.
The municipality emphasized that the contamination is minimal and links it to damage and service interruptions created by last week’s storm. Local crews have started treatment measures aimed at disinfecting and clarifying the network.
What the municipality is doing
Officials say teams are performing targeted chlorination and flushing of affected parts of the supply system. The municipality is waiting for laboratory analyses and formal confirmation from doctors at the Public Health Institution Health Center, Strumica before lifting the advisory.
Residents in the listed settlements are urged to avoid using tap water for drinking until the authorities announce that tests show the water is safe. The municipality asked citizens to follow further instructions and updates that will be published when new results arrive.
