Attempted murder charge after daytime attack on former wife in Strumica
Z.P. has been charged with attempted murder after a daytime stabbing of his former wife; the victim was transferred to Shtip hospital with serious injuries.
A 37-year-old man from Strumica faces criminal charges for an attempted murder in a case linked to domestic violence after, investigators say, he attacked his former wife with a sharp object inside a hospitality venue in Strumica and caused serious injuries to her face.
The incident occurred on 31 July 2026 at about 12:40 p.m., police from the Ministry of Internal Affairs' regional unit in Strumica say, when officers responded to a report of an assault inside the establishment.
According to the investigation, Z.P. (37) assaulted his 34-year-old former wife with a sharp instrument and inflicted a severe facial injury. After the attack he left the scene and a police search was launched.
Suspect surrenders; alcohol detected
Soon afterwards the suspect presented himself at the police station in Strumica and was interviewed by officers. An alcohol test conducted at the station showed a blood alcohol level of 1.20 per mille (‰) at the time of testing.
The injured woman was taken immediately for medical treatment and, because of the seriousness of her injuries, was transported to the Medical Center in Shtip. Doctors there recorded severe bodily injuries and she remained for further care.
Following investigative actions and the evidence gathered, the Sector for Internal Affairs — Strumica filed a criminal complaint with the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Strumica against Z.P. on grounds of "attempted murder, in connection with domestic violence," punishable under Article 123 paragraph 2, in connection with Article 19 of the Criminal Code.
The authorities say the suspect will be brought before a preliminary hearing judge at the Basic Court in Strumica on 4 August 2026. Investigators continue working to clarify all circumstances surrounding the attack.
