Businessman Borche Markovski returns from Serbia; lawyer says he will attend trial on September 2
Struga court returned his passport after it had been confiscated; Markovski faces charges linked to a TE Oslomej procurement.
Borche Markovski, a businessman from Bitola and the honorary consul of Belarus in North Macedonia, has returned to the country after the Struga court restored his passport, which had previously been taken as a preventive measure.
His lawyer, Marjan Nikolovski, confirmed that Markovski came back from Serbia where he had business obligations, and said the lifting of the restrictions was carried out according to the law. Nikolovski also asserted that his client will be present at the upcoming trial, which begins on September 2.
Case and accusations
Markovski is one of eight people charged with offences connected to a public procurement for the relocation of power-generation units from TE Oslomej to REK Bitola. Prosecutors accuse the group of criminal conduct related to that procurement.
Lawyer Nikolovski stressed that the court's decision to return the passport followed legal procedure and repeated his assurance that Markovski will attend the hearing scheduled for September 2.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski yesterday criticized the move, saying it was "a gross manipulation by a local public prosecutor in the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office who is an accomplice in the process."
