From 1 October Croatia will require retailers to show an "anchored price"

From 1 October, Croatia will require retailers and registered service providers to display an "anchored price" alongside the current price of certain goods and services. The anchored price is the regular price that was in force on 10 September 2026 and must be shown so consumers can compare how the price has changed.

What the anchored price means

The "anchored price" is a reference regular price for a product or service on a specific date; it is not a fixed or maximum permitted price. Retailers remain free to change the current price at any time, but must also show the regular price that applied on 10 September 2026.

The rule covers a range of everyday consumer items, including food, beverages, cosmetics, cleaning products, toilet articles and a wide variety of household goods.

The measure does not apply to promotions, discounts or other special forms of sale: those temporary offers are excluded from the anchored-price requirement.

The obligation applies to all retail traders and registered providers of services in Croatia. That means the obligation reaches beyond supermarkets to clothing and footwear shops, electronics stores, furniture and building-material retailers, as well as restaurants, cafés, hairdressers and beauty salons, auto mechanics, various service providers and other craftsmen who offer products or services to consumers.

Authorities expect the change to make price movements more transparent for shoppers by giving a fixed reference point — the regular price on 10 September 2026 — alongside the current selling price from 1 October.
