MAPAS: pensioners with beneficiated service must choose whether to stay in the second pension pillar by Jan. 20, 2027
Members with beneficiated service have from October 20, 2026 until 20 January 2027 to submit a written declaration to remain in the capital-funded second pillar.

The Agency for Supervision of Capital-Financed Pension Insurance (MAPAS) has notified that members of mandatory pension funds who have acquired sufficient beneficiated service to qualify for at least a one-year reduction in the retirement age have a limited window to decide whether to remain in the second (capital-funded) pillar.
MAPAS says the decision must be made in writing between tomorrow (October 20, 2026) and no later than 20 January 2027. Members who do not submit a written declaration to continue membership by 20 January 2027 will have their membership in the mandatory pension fund terminated.
What happens if a member does not opt to stay
After membership in the mandatory pension fund ends, the pension company will transfer the entire balance from the individuals' accounts to the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of North Macedonia (PIOSM). Those who do not submit the declaration will remain insured only under the pay-as-you-go pension scheme administered by PIOSM and will draw their pension from that fund.
MAPAS also clarified that people who already submitted a declaration to extend membership in previous years do not need to submit a new statement — their continuation remains in force.
MAPAS has published the form and additional information on its website for those who need to prepare and submit the written declaration. Members with questions are advised to contact their pension company or MAPAS for guidance before the 20 January 2027 deadline.
