From 22 September: Strong northerly winds and marked temperature drop

From Tuesday, 22 September, North Macedonia will be affected by a markedly colder air mass arriving from the north, bringing strong northerly winds and a significant fall in temperatures, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.

Poposki warned the north wind will be gusty and locally exceed 60 km/h, while daytime highs will fall by more than 10 degrees compared with current values.

Colder mornings, possible first frosts at higher elevations

He added: "This cold intrusion from the north will be relatively dry and without some precipitation, except on Monday (21 September) in the afternoon and in the evening hours when there will be conditions for weaker local rain showers.

Already from Tuesday (22 September) and in the days after, mornings will be much fresher and even relatively cold with minimum temperatures that will drop in the interval from 2 to 10 degrees. In the higher settlements and in the mountains the temperatures may be even lower, and on mountain peaks they will drop below zero. The possibility is not excluded that during this period the first morning frosts of the season will appear in North Macedonia, especially in higher settlements and in the mountains.

Maximum daytime temperatures will also be much lower and will rise in the interval from 15 to 23 degrees.

Poposki stressed that the temperatures expected from Tuesday (22 September) onward will be significantly below the seasonal average for this time of year and said, "This means the real autumn is coming to us from Tuesday (22 September) in North Macedonia."
