Official: Gerson Rodrigues is no longer a Vardar player
The Luxembourg striker confirmed his exit on social media after a scandal at the away game with Struga TL; the club allegedly paid €40,000.
Official: on September 3, 2026, Gerson Rodrigues announced via his social media accounts that he is no longer a member of the current Macedonian champion, FK Vardar.
The decision follows a high-profile incident during Vardar's away match at Struga TL and a subsequent disciplinary suspension. After the episode the club moved to remove the forward from the squad and issued him free papers so he could depart.
According to unofficial reports, terminating the relationship cost Vardar €40,000 — a figure that the club has not formally confirmed and could still be denied.
Rodrigues, in his customary fashion, published what were described as "heartbreaking" messages on social media saying he feels relieved that the situation has been resolved and that he will try to find peace in another environment.
Regardless of the final accounting, the player will remain in the club's history as one of the more notable failed foreign signings.
Earlier disciplinary news connected to the same competition noted that the Football Federation of North Macedonia's Disciplinary Committee handed Laval a three-match suspension for a red card.
