Official: Liverpool complete Ronald Araújo loan deal

Liverpool have confirmed the arrival of Ronald Araújo on a season-long loan from Barcelona, with an option to buy set at 55 million euros. The Uruguayan centre-back will wear the number 33 shirt and is expected to plug the defensive void left after Ibrahima Konaté's departure from Merseyside.

From Montevideo to Anfield

Barcelona originally signed Araújo in 2018 from Boston River, and he initially featured for the club's reserve side before breaking through into the first team. The 27-year-old established himself as a regular starter at Camp Nou and later became one of the team's captains.

Across all competitions for Barcelona Araújo made 213 appearances, scoring 14 goals and providing 7 assists. His trophy cabinet with the Catalan club includes three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies and three Spanish Super Cups.

At international level Araújo has represented Uruguay 27 times, scoring once and contributing three assists.

The move gives Liverpool an experienced, ball-playing central defender who can be paired with the club’s existing options as they prepare for the new campaign. The loan with a buy option allows the club to assess Araújo's fit before deciding on the permanent transfer.
