Long queues at Greek border as Macedonians return from the long weekend
On August 30, 2026, heavy congestion was reported near the Thessaloniki toll plaza and at Dojran as many Macedonians returned from the long weekend.

Huge queues formed at Greek exit points on Sunday as Macedonian travellers returned from the long weekend, causing long delays on major routes toward the Evzoni border crossing.
Traffic builds near Thessaloniki tolls and at Dojran
A reader reporting from the coast said the backup began after the toll plaza close to Thessaloniki: "We were vacationing in Nei Pori, we passed the toll near Thessaloniki, and then we stopped. Who knows how long we'll wait, the line to Evzoni is huge," said a reader.
Authorities and border services have not published an official estimate, but travellers on social networks and direct reports indicate waits of several hours. At Dojran, drivers reported queuing times in excess of two hours.
The congestion appears concentrated on the main northbound arteries out of Thessaloniki and through the tolls leading to the border. Many returning holidaymakers chose the same departure window on August 30, 2026, increasing pressure on the crossings.
Motorists are advised to expect delays if planning to leave Greece via Evzoni or the Dojran area and to consider later departure times or alternative routes where possible.
