Ohrid residents complain after motorcades block streets during presidential visits
Social-media videos show convoys in Ohrid; residents say repeated road closures for official escorts have created jams during the summer.
On August 10, 2026 a video circulated on social media showing an official-looking motorcade moving through the streets of Ohrid; the clips were shared by users who say the convoy was escorting President Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova during her stay in the city.
Residents who posted the footage complain that the repeated blocking of roads for protected persons has caused long traffic queues across the town throughout the summer. The posts say the disruptions are a daily occurrence while the warm season lasts.
One widely shared comment on the video reads: "Citizens film and publish themselves! This is every day, all summer and early autumn until the weather cools down and she returns to Vodno in Skopje," the post says.
Local frustration during peak season
Another post, written with a local dialectal tone, warned that the situation will continue until the president leaves Ohrid for Skopje: "This will be the case until the weather cools down and she returns to Vodno in Skopje. In Ohrid there is unrest again because streets are blocked by the convoys accompanying Gordana Siljanovska-Davkova," it read.
Complaints about road restrictions during visits by officials are not new in Ohrid. Last year residents also reported being forced to wait at intersections and along busy streets during periods of increased tourist traffic, when convoys for protected persons passed through.
The social-media posts and videos show local frustration over congestion at a time of heavy visitor numbers; the posts do not include an official response from presidential security or municipal authorities.
