Prosecutors seek detention for 20-year-old after violence outside Jane Sandanski Sports Centre

A public prosecutor from the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Skopje has opened criminal proceedings after an attack that took place before a sporting event at the Sports Centre "Jane Sandanski".

Prosecutor seeks detention for 20-year-old suspect

The prosecutor charged one individual with the criminal offence of Violence under Article 386, paragraph 6 in conjunction with paragraphs 4 and 1 of the Criminal Code and asked the court to order pre-trial detention.

“In a conflict between supporter groups in front of the entrance to the Sports Centre 'Jane Sandanski' the suspect struck a child from the opposite camp in the head. The injured child lost consciousness from the blow and fell to the ground and with a head contusion was transported to the Clinical Center 'Mother Teresa'. Due to the danger of flight, the possibility to influence witnesses of the incident who are to be heard, but also to repeat the offense, the public prosecutor proposed that detention be ordered for the 20-year-old suspect,” the Public Prosecutor's Office said.

The wounded child was taken to Clinical Center 'Mother Teresa' for treatment of a head contusion; authorities say the child initially lost consciousness at the scene.

Police had previously reported that a criminal complaint was filed in connection with the incident. The prosecutor's move to request detention reflects concerns about flight risk and potential witness interference.
