Olimpija drop points in derby as Zahovic cancels Mitrovski assist
Olimpija led 1-0 after an Urbancic goal set up by Dimitar Mitrovski, but Zahovic equalised in the 85th minute to make it 1-1.
Olimpija conceded a late equaliser and dropped points in the big Slovenian derby, finishing 1-1 against rivals Maribor on 15.08.2026. The result came after a match in which the home side had led until the 85th minute.
Late goal rescues Maribor
Olimpija took the lead just before half-time when Urbancic scored in the 45+1st minute following a precise assist from Dimitar Mitrovski. Mitrovski started the game and remained on the field until the 89th minute.
Maribor fought back in the closing stages and found the equaliser through Zahovic in the 85th minute, cancelling Olimpija's advantage and forcing a 1-1 draw.
The fixture was the third match on the bench for Olimpija's Macedonian coach Jugoslav Trenchovski and produced his first draw; he had previously recorded one victory and one defeat in charge.
Both teams will look back at the final quarter-hour as decisive: Olimpija for failing to hold their lead and Maribor for earning a vital point with a late intervention.
