The Municipality of Novo Selo sold all the plots it offered for weekend houses near the Smolare Waterfall on Mount Belasica, with prices reaching up to €30 per square metre. From the 13 plots put on the market — ten by Smolare and three near Mokrino — the municipality collected 5.7 million denars (about €93,000).

Municipal proceeds to finance infrastructure

Mayor Gjorgje Bozhinov said the revenue will be used to build infrastructure in the area and announced further land sales next year. The initial offering attracted strong interest and produced higher-than-expected bids for individual squares of land.

"The municipality provides full infrastructure and the money we received from the sale of the parcels will go for that purpose. Next year we plan to issue another 20 plots near Smolare, for which there is huge interest and high prices per square meter were achieved," Bozhinov said.

Local officials say the sold parcels are part of a planned weekend-housing settlement intended to boost recreational use of the Smolare Waterfall and surrounding Belasica slopes. The municipality plans to channel the funds into roads, utilities and other basic services needed before construction begins.

Officials also noted that, because of the demand recorded in this round, the remaining 20 parcels that the municipality intends to offer in the coming year are likely to attract comparable interest and prices.
