Who carried Marija Šerifović’s son Mario — Nada Obrić reveals details
Nada Obrić says the surrogate was a married, educated mother who received comprehensive care while carrying Mario in the United States.

Bosnian folk singer Nada Obrić has publicly described the woman who carried Marija Šerifović’s son Mario, saying the surrogate was a well-educated mother with a husband and one child and that she received excellent care throughout the pregnancy.
Details and conditions
According to Obrić’s account, the surrogate’s decision was not driven by severe financial need but came from a stable personal situation; Marija Šerifović ensured the surrogate had everything required during the pregnancy, including organized assistance, massages and a person to manage household tasks.
Šerifović became a mother in December 2023 via a surrogacy arrangement carried out in the United States. She has described the procedure as slow and administratively complex, involving multiple checks, procedures and legal steps in the relevant U.S. states.
Šerifović has also pushed back against narratives that portray women who carry children for others as lacking agency. She rejected suggestions of coercion or exploitation and emphasized that the arrangement included formal care and support for the surrogate throughout the pregnancy.
Since Mario’s birth, Šerifović’s private life has changed markedly; she shares occasional moments from their life together on social media and has said that motherhood has become the centre of her world.
The revelations by Obrić have renewed public attention to surrogacy, a topic that remains divisive across the Balkans and prompts debate about ethics, regulation and the many different paths to parenthood.
