Around 100 illegal umbrellas and sunbeds removed from Gerakini beach, Halkidiki
Municipality of Poligiros seized fixed sunbeds and umbrellas after owners did not comply with a removal notice; confiscated items have been sent for recycling.

Around 100 illegally installed, fixed and padlocked umbrellas and sunbeds were removed from Gerakini beach this morning in an operation carried out by the Municipality of Poligiros. The site lies between the first and second peninsula of Halkidiki.
Municipal officials said the equipment had effectively occupied public space and hindered free access for bathers. Authorities issued an official notice asking owners and users to remove their items themselves; after some failed to comply, crews moved in.
Field teams worked with one truck, two off‑road vehicles and an excavator, and the operation was attended by Deputy Mayor Vasilis Fardoianis.
Municipal statement and next steps
“This is an intervention aimed at protecting public space and enforcing rules that apply to everyone. The municipality will continue inspections and interventions where necessary, so that the beaches of the Municipality of Poligiros remain clean, free and accessible for residents and visitors,” said Vasilis Fardoianis, stressing that the move was not directed against anyone.
The confiscated umbrellas and sunbeds are treated as waste under established procedure and have been transported to a recycling facility.
Similar actions were carried out last week by the Municipality of Kassandra on the first leg of Halkidiki at six different locations: Mola Kaliva, Nea Skioni, Kallithea, Hanioti, and along the coastal zone between Kriopigi and Polichrono. Municipal officials said patrols and removals will continue where needed.
