Political parties in North Macedonia received nearly €9 million from the state budget for regular party financing in 2026, with the ruling VMRO‑DPMNE taking a record share of €2.5 million.
SDSM’s allocation fell to €1 million, while DUI (Democratic Union for Integration) received €472,000 and remained the third‑largest recipient this year.
Distribution and concentration of funding
The document on this year’s payments, obtained from the Ministry of Justice, shows that the three largest parties together absorbed 45 percent of the total budget earmarked for party funding. When Levica and ZNAM are added, more than half of the available funds in 2026 went to those five parties.
The next five places on the list are occupied by parties from the Albanian political bloc — BESA, the Democratic Movement, Alternativa and the Alliance for Albanians — each receiving between €220,000 and €245,000. Rounding out that second group is the Democratic Party of the Turks, which took just over €180,000.
The system in North Macedonia finances political parties from the state budget, and the size of each party’s grant depends on its electoral results. This year’s allocation amounted to almost €9 million, equivalent to 0.15 percent of the budget’s total original revenues.
