Partizan fall in Kaunas; Efes thump Panathinaikos in Istanbul

Seven games in EuroLeague's Round 9 produced another setback for Partizan: the Serb club fell 87:80 to Žalgiris in Kaunas and slid back into a losing run despite last week's derby win over Crvena zvezda.

Partizan did not collapse entirely, but lacked the legs and finishing power when it mattered most and could not overturn Žalgiris' advantage in the closing stages.

Big home wins and standout individual nights

Panathinaikos suffered a heavy defeat in Istanbul, losing 83:68 to Efes in what was described as a one-sided game. It is already the second loss this season for the title favourite led by Željko Obradović. Fernando and Malcolm scored 15 points apiece for the hosts, while the best numbers for the visitors came from Nan with 17 points.

Dubai celebrated a 97:83 victory over Hapoel at home, and ASVEL beat Baskonia 94:79.

Moses Wright delivered a strong performance for Olimpia Milano on the road at Olympiacos, finishing with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists, but the European champions prevailed 84:78 thanks to big nights from Miller-McIntyre and Vezenkov, who scored 24 and 23 points respectively.

Barcelona edged Valencia 98:94 in a thriller; Ty-Jay Shorts, representing the visitors, finished with 11 points, 1 rebound and 5 assists. In Bologna, Besiktas pulled off a dramatic 103:101 win over Virtus.
