Five aerial targets tracked near Romania–Ukraine border; one drone briefly entered Romanian airspace
Romanian radars tracked five aerial targets; one drone entered Romanian airspace near Pardina for about ten minutes before returning toward Ukraine.
A new aerial incident was recorded near the Romania–Ukraine border during the night between 12 and 13 August, when Romania's radar network tracked five aerial targets, the Ministry of Defence of Romania said.
One drone briefly crossed into Romanian airspace and then returned toward Ukraine
At about 01:27, radars detected a group of five aerial objects close to the Ukrainian city of Izmail, near the Romanian frontier. Because of the perceived threat, the RO-Alert system was activated in the northern part of Tulcea county.
Two F-16 fighter jets from Borcea air base were scrambled by the Romanian Air Force to monitor the situation. Romanian radar operators later established that one of the targets entered Romanian airspace roughly 2 kilometres south of Pardina.
That unmanned aircraft flew for about ten minutes along the Kiliia branch before leaving Romania and heading back toward Ukraine. Shortly after it left Romanian airspace, explosions were recorded on Ukrainian territory, the ministry reported. The air alert in northern Tulcea was lifted at 02:42.
An additional incident was observed the following morning near Costinești, where a fragment from a possible drone was seen in the sea and filmed by people on the beach. Romanian authorities announced they will carry out further assessment of the object.
The Ministry of Defence said it continues to follow the situation closely and keeps allied structures informed.
