Prosecutors vote today to choose new head of Basic Public Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime and Corruption
A secret ballot among 187 prosecutors will decide the successor to Islam Abazi, with five candidates competing.

One hundred eighty-seven public prosecutors are taking part in a secret ballot today to choose the next head of the Basic Public Prosecutor's Office for Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption.
The contest includes five candidates: Faton Azizi, Trajche Pelivanov, Lidija Raicevic, Iskra Hadzi Vasileva and Jovan Cvetanovski. Voting is scheduled to run from 08:00 to 16:00, after which results will be tallied at a public session.
Candidates focus on investigations, corruption and institutional independence
Each candidate previously presented a written and oral programme to the Council of Public Prosecutors. Their stated priorities centred on strengthening investigative capacity, stepping up the fight against corruption and money laundering, expanding financial investigations and improving the Office's operational efficiency.
Several of the proposals also emphasised measures intended to reinforce the Office's independence from external influence.
The vote follows the expiry of the mandate of the current head, Islam Abazi, who was selected for the post in October 2022.
The selection procedure is being administered by a commission appointed by the Council of Public Prosecutors consisting of Ermon Neziri, Svetlana Stojkovikj and Keti Petkova.
