Five dead, ten missing after Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel hit Mexico
Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel caused fatalities, disappearances, flooding and power outages along Mexico’s Pacific coast and Baja California.

At least five people have died and ten are reported missing in Mexico after severe weather linked to Hurricane Simon and Tropical Storm Rachel battered the Pacific coast and Baja California peninsula.
An elderly man was killed in the Pacific coastal state of Guerrero, Governor Evelin Salgado said. In the northwestern state of Baja California, Governor Marina del Pilar reported that two children and two adults from the same family died, and that another ten people are listed as missing.
Meteorological situation and coastal warnings
Hurricane Simon was a Category 2 storm yesterday, active southwest of Jalisco’s Pacific coast, the Mexican National Meteorological Service said. Forecasters expected it to move northwest and gradually weaken, with a forecast that it could approach the coastal city of Mazatlán in Sinaloa as a Category 1 hurricane during the night.
Authorities continued to warn of heavy rainfall, strong winds and high waves along the Pacific shoreline, urging residents in vulnerable areas to take precautions.
Tropical Storm Rachel made landfall on the Baja California peninsula over the weekend. Local authorities reported that rains from Rachel caused property damage, flooding and power outages in several communities across the peninsula.
Emergency services and local governments are monitoring the situation and carrying out search and rescue operations for the missing, while coastal and municipal authorities assess damage and restore utilities.
