Five killed after Amazon cargo plane overshoots runway at Miami International Airport

Five people were killed and five others were seriously injured after an Amazon cargo plane overshot the runway while attempting to land at Miami International Airport, authorities said.

The aircraft, a Boeing 767-300 that had departed from San Juan, Puerto Rico, struck several ground vehicles after failing to stop on the runway.

Emergency response and grounding order

Emergency crews rushed to the scene to fight fires and assist victims. The Federal Aviation Administration ordered all aircraft to be grounded while investigators and local officials responded.

Amazon released a statement saying, "Amazon said it is working closely with local authorities and officials to determine exactly what happened." Company representatives said they are cooperating with investigators and providing support to those affected.

Officials have not yet released a timeline for reopening the airport or additional details about the cause of the crash. Investigators from federal and local agencies are on site collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.
