A 63-year-old man from Strumica was detained after police say he started a fire in his yard in the village of Gabrovo on July 30, and the flames spread onto the adjacent street.
How the incident unfolded
According to police, officers from the Strumica police department observed B.K., a resident of Strumica, setting the blaze at about 10:00 p.m. on July 30. The fire extended beyond the property and reached the public roadway, prompting an emergency response.
Crews from the Strumica Territorial Fire Unit responded and extinguished the fire. Authorities reported no injuries among residents or responders.
B.K. was taken into custody and held at the Strumica Police Station. A breath test showed an alcohol level of 2.04 per mille.
The Basic Public Prosecutor's Office in Strumica has been notified. "After complete documentation of the event, an appropriate charge will be filed against the person," police said.
Investigators continue to document the case before formal charges are submitted.
