Piksi open to South Korea job — but only with a long-term contract

On 15 August 2026 Dragan Stojkovic "Piksi" confirmed in an interview with KBS that he is interested in the South Korea national team job — but only under one condition: a long-term contract.
"It is true that I am interested in taking over the South Korea national team, but I am only interested if I receive a long-term engagement, and not to be an interim coach," Stojkovic told KBS.
Stojkovic is reportedly a candidate to replace Hong Myung-bo, who left following South Korea's disappointing exit from the recent World Cup. The vacancy has prompted a search for a coach who can rebuild and prepare the squad for the coming qualification cycle.
Negotiations and timing
One complication is that officials at the Korea Football Association want an interim coach to oversee friendly matches scheduled for September and October — a short-term solution that would conflict with Stojkovic's demand for a long-term mandate. Uruguayan Gustavo Poyet has been mentioned as willing to accept a temporary role.
Stojkovic downplayed the surrounding controversy and signalled confidence that outstanding issues will be resolved.
"I am aware of the storm that has arisen. Every association has its problems. I'm not overly worried about it and I think all those problems will be resolved quickly," Piksi concluded.
