Seven-metre python found to have swallowed man in Indonesia
A 35-year-old man from Waisakai on the Sula Islands was found dead inside a seven-metre python after disappearing on his way home.
Indonesian authorities say they discovered a 35-year-old man’s body inside the stomach of a seven-metre python after the snake attacked him while he was returning home.
The victim, identified as Hasim Lumbesi, lived in the village of Waisakai on the Sula Islands and vanished on Monday afternoon while walking back from a neighbouring settlement.
Searchers followed traces and found the snake
Police said the case came to light when a witness, Chandra Umasugi, and three companions found the man’s personal items beside the road — a backpack, body lotion and sandals — together with traces of blood. They photographed the items and alerted residents when they returned to the nearby village of Pelita Jaya.
Local residents launched a search and, the police chief said, noticed tracks belonging to a snake. They followed the tracks until they located the animal, killed it and discovered the man’s body inside its stomach.
“The victim was attacked by a seven-metre python, which then swallowed him, causing his death,” said Kompol Handres, the police chief of the Sula Islands.
