SDSM Platform for Change to hold forum “What after 35 years?”
Public forum on 26 September will review 35 years since independence and press for internal reforms within SDSM.
The Platform for Change within SDSM will take its discussion to the public on 26 September with a forum titled "What after 35 years?". The event will be moderated by one of the platform's leading figures, university professor Igor Ivanovski.
The forum agenda
Organizers say the forum will examine the political and social development of the country since independence and discuss a range of issues including:
- reassessing the key challenges from independence to the present;
- mistakes made versus progress achieved;
- the practice of power as a paradigm for current hopelessness;
- necessary changes in the political system to enable better policies;
- lessons learned from the past and possible paths for the future;
- a new social contract as a necessity to return North Macedonia to a strategic track.
Participants in the platform include former and current SDSM officials such as MP Slavjanka Petrovska, Kriva Palanka Mayor Sashko Mitovski, and doctor Andrej Petrov. The group is calling for urgent changes inside the opposition party, including a replacement of the current leadership headed by party chair Venko Filipche.
From their public appearances so far, the platform’s proponents argue for returning the party to its membership base and repositioning it as a stronger and more effective check on the government.
SDSM has previously responded that the platform represents a continuation of the political party ZNAM, follows the same political course, and aims to weaken the opposition SDSM.
