Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge in Premier League derby

Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on October 24, 2026, securing a London derby victory in the eighth round of the Premier League.

Decisive own goal and a late second seal the win

The match was settled by a calamitous own goal in the 77th minute and a precise strike from distance in the closing stages. Tottenham’s corner routine and pressure finally produced reward after a difficult start to the season for Roberto De Zerbi’s side.

Mateus Fernandes delivered a left-sided corner aimed at Van Hecke; the young Belgian goalkeeper Penders attempted to punch the ball clear but did so so poorly that it rebounded over his own goal line — 0:1. Chelsea, already reeling, were further weakened when Cole Palmer picked up a second yellow card in the 80th minute.

Tottenham did not sit back. In the final phase Matiss Tel won possession from Achepong inside his own half, beat Lacroa with a feint, set himself and fired from about 20 metres to make it 0:2 — a finish that confirmed Tottenham’s victory and moved them toward the upper half of the table.

Roberto De Zerbi’s team, which narrowly avoided relegation last summer and invested around half a billion euros this summer on reinforcements, had begun the campaign poorly. Before Monday’s win over Coventry they had gone without victory, but recent matches have shown a marked improvement and tonight was arguably their best performance of the season.

After the match Tottenham sit on nine points and occupy 12th place in the table. Chelsea are fourth with 13 points. The contest was also affected by an injury to Chelsea’s main striker Joao Pedro, who went down shortly before kickoff, a setback that appeared to hamper the hosts.
