Ronald Koeman announced on social media on September 16, 2026 that his wife, Bartina, has died.
In his message Koeman wrote: "With great sadness, but also with great pride and love, we say goodbye to my beautiful wife, our dearest mother and grandmother," Koeman said.
Koeman had revealed a year earlier that Bartina had been re-diagnosed with breast cancer.
Illness timeline
Her first diagnosis dated back to 2010, and the recurrence was made public by Koeman in 2025. The family did not release further medical details.
The announcement was posted from the Netherlands, where Koeman lives and works. The football community and supporters have not been quoted in the family's message.
The couple's loss was presented in the brief public statement on social media; Koeman described Bartina as "my beautiful wife, our dearest mother and grandmother." No additional funeral arrangements have been published by the family.
