Hundreds gathered in Navahermosa, near Madrid, to attend the funeral of Jesús de Miguel, the 30-year-old footballer who died after a collision during a second-division match. The farewell on Thursday was marked by intense emotion and the presence of prominent figures from Spanish football.

High-profile attendance

Among those who paid their respects were Spain coach Luis de la Fuente, Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez, Football Federation president Rafael Luzán and former Real Madrid director Predrag Mijatović. Representatives from Atlético Madrid and Sevilla were also present, alongside family, friends and club delegates.

Players and officials from the clubs for which de Miguel played came to the service: teammates from Tenerife and members of his former club Castellón joined the crowd to honour him. A memorial Mass was held at the San Miguel Arcángel church in Navahermosa, and so many people wished to attend that many had to wait outside the building.

One especially moving moment came when Tenerife players carried their teammate's coffin out of the church.

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente addressed de Miguel's family and explained the national team's presence. "We wanted to be with Jesús's family to express our sorrow, solidarity and respect," he told the Spanish newspaper AS.

De Miguel died on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, after colliding with goalkeeper Jesús Ovono during the match against Andorra.
