FCSB forward Octavian Popescu was moved for psychiatric evaluation after police entered his Bucharest flat following calls from family and club.
Romanian football was shaken after police and firefighters forced their way into the downtown Bucharest apartment of 23-year-old FCSB forward Octavian Popescu and later moved him to a psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
According to media reports, relatives and club staff had been unable to reach Popescu for several days, so authorities were called. Teams that arrived at the address entered the flat by force when no one answered the door and found Popescu together with another person.
What emerged at the scene
Reporters said officers discovered a number of small balloons that are suspected to be linked to nitrous oxide — commonly known as "laughing gas" — though the club has not confirmed those details.
FCSB's sporting director Mihai Stoica described the matter as "a delicate personal matter" and said it was unrelated to the football side of the club.
After the initial intervention, Popescu underwent a medical assessment and was then transferred to a psychiatric hospital in Bucharest for further evaluation. The club has limited its official comments to the brief statement from the sporting director.
Popescu, formerly regarded as one of Romania's top young talents, remains under medical review while the facts around the apartment visit continue to be reported by Romanian outlets.
