Police stop about 40 migrants at Moin border; warning shots fired

Police prevented an attempted illegal entry of a group of roughly 40 migrants from Greece into North Macedonia, and officers fired warning shots into the air during the intervention. Fifteen migrants were detained and handed over to the Reception-Transit Center in Gevgelija for further procedures.
Border intervention near Moin
The incident occurred on October 8, 2026 at around 17:30 near the border with Greece, at a location known as "Kjupot" in the municipal area of the village of Moin, the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported. Officers from the Bogorodica Police Station for Border Checks and Surveillance observed the group and moved to stop their crossing into Macedonian territory.
According to official information, during the operation police fired several warning shots from firearms into the air. No injuries have been reported in connection with the incident.
Fifteen people from the group were taken into custody and transported to the Reception-Transit Center in Gevgelija, where immigration and asylum procedures will continue. The remainder of the group did not enter the country.
The Ministry did not provide further personal details about the migrants. Border checks in the area remain active as authorities monitor for additional irregular crossings.
