The Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) warns that after a spell of exceptionally high temperatures across the country, unsettled weather with heavy rain and strong wind is expected on Thursday and Friday, accompanied by thunder.
Short-term outlook and timing
UHMR says the immediate days will remain sunny and very warm, but the pattern changes later in the week: "Tomorrow and on Wednesday will remain sunny and very warm with little to moderate cloudiness. On Thursday and Friday there will locally be instability with heavy rain, strengthened wind and the occurrence of thunderstorms. Occasionally the processes will be in the form of severe storms, and the temperature will fall by a few degrees," the Hydrometeorological Service (UHMR) said.
Forecasters add that the expected drop in temperature will be modest—only a few degrees—yet the main impact will be from intense, localized downpours and gusty winds that can develop suddenly.
Authorities advise residents to be prepared for short-lived but intense storms in low-lying and urban areas where runoff and localized flooding can occur, and to secure loose outdoor objects that could be blown away by gusts.
Motorists should drive with caution on wet roads and allow extra time for travel on Thursday and Friday; those planning outdoor events are advised to follow updated forecasts and alerts from UHMR.
