More than 150 passengers stranded at Thessaloniki after bird lodged in engine
Evening flight to Germany cancelled on safety grounds; airline says departure will take place today.
More than 150 passengers were left stranded last night at Thessaloniki International Airport "Macedonia" after a scheduled flight to Germany was cancelled when a bird was found lodged in one of the aircraft's engines.
The flight had been due to depart during the evening hours, but passengers waited for several hours before the airline informed them that the flight would not go ahead for safety reasons.
Safety procedures and checks
The discovery activated standard safety procedures: the carrier took steps to remove the bird and carried out a technical inspection of the plane before any further decision on departure.
Passengers were told the airline expects the flight to be operated today.
