Fire near Rashtak: dry grass and low-stature woodland on fire

A wildfire is burning near the village of Rashtak on the border between the Gazi Baba and Butel municipalities, consuming dry grass and low-stature woodland, emergency services report.

Fire crews dispatched from Skopje

The Center for Crisis Management (CCM) said firefighting teams from the Skopje Fire Brigade have been alerted and sent to the scene to contain the blaze. The fire affects areas of high dry vegetation and scattered low trees beneath the village.

Authorities said the terrain where the fire is spreading is covered with tall, dry grass and low woodland, conditions that can allow flames to move quickly if not contained.

"The teams of the City of Skopje Fire Protection Brigade have been notified and are heading to the field to intervene," the Center for Crisis Management said.

At this stage there is no public information about injuries or damage to buildings. Emergency services are focused on preventing the fire from reaching inhabited areas and on protecting nearby infrastructure.

Local officials from Gazi Baba and Butel are monitoring the situation and coordinating with fire crews as they work to douse the flames and secure the perimeter.
