The fire in Mariovo rekindled — fire line around 20 km, Krushevica threatened
The fire in the Prilep part of Mariovo reactivated; the priority for the night is defending the village Krushevica.
Published: 18 August 2026, 19:39 — The fire in the Mariovo region rekindled around noon and, according to information, the fire line now extends for approximately 20 kilometers. The blaze, which last night affected parts of the village Chanishte, is spreading in the Prilep part of Mariovo and is moving from the course of Crna Reka toward the peak Margaro.
The director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DZS), Stojanche Angelov, announced the figures for the length of the line and warned of a difficult night. "We will have a difficult night, we must defend the village Krushevica," Angelov said.
Forces on the ground and priorities
On site are the Prilep firefighters and DZS teams made up of volunteers from Bitola; additional volunteer teams arrived from Kochani and Vinica to assist with firefighting and protection. The main task for the night is to prevent the fire from advancing toward the settlement Krushevica, which is only a few kilometers from the active line.
Angelov added that today a hard battle with the fire was also being fought in the territory of Staro Nagorichane. Regarding the burned structures in the village Chanishte, he pointed out that they were abandoned houses.
The duty teams say they will concentrate on defensive lines and on protecting property and infrastructure through the night, while monitoring the development of the fire line remains a priority as the operations on the ground continue.
