Gilded statue of a naked Donald Trump installed in European Parliament in Strasbourg

A gilded satirical statue of a naked Donald Trump has been installed inside the European Parliament in Strasbourg. The sculpture, measuring 2.5 metres, was created by Danish artist Jens Galschiot and shows a naked Trump holding a long golf club while sitting on the shoulders of a much smaller man who staggers under the weight.

The work, covered in 23-carat gold, is titled "The Orange Plague" and is also known as "The King of Injustice." The accompanying placard quotes the "King": "I would do anything to help him. Except to get off his back."

Galschiot said the piece is intended as a direct critique of Trump's obstruction of climate action. The statue has previously been displayed in several European cities and was also shown at the UN climate conference COP-30 in Belém, Brazil.

Display and reaction

The sculpture has been placed in the passage that links the two Parliament buildings and is scheduled to remain on display until Thursday. The installation was organised by Danish MEP Per Clausen, who said he was not worried about any potential reaction from Trump.

"If someone is so sensitive that they cannot tolerate the display of this sculpture in the European Parliament, then they have no place on the world stage," Clausen said.

Donald Trump has not commented on the artwork.
