Warning for bathing on Korčula: Escherichia coli found on Bilin Žal beach
The Institute of Public Health confirms exceedance of limit values for Escherichia coli at Bilin Žal beach; sampling will continue.
Short-term fecal contamination of the sea has been detected at Bilin Žal beach in the village of Lumbarda on the island of Korčula due to an increased concentration of the bacterium Escherichia coli, the Institute of Public Health of Dubrovnik-Neretva County reported.
Regular testing revealed an unpleasant truth
The contamination was confirmed during the sixth regular testing of the bathing water quality carried out by the Institute. According to the measured values, the results at Bilin Žal beach exceed the permitted limit values for Escherichia coli.
"It has been determined that the results of the seawater analysis at Bilin Žal beach exceed the limit value for the bacterium Escherichia coli," the Institute said.
Sampling of seawater will continue until the contamination ceases, and the Environmental Protection Inspection and other competent inspection services have been notified of the case.
Visitors are urged to respect local warnings and follow instructions from health authorities while the tests are ongoing.
