Ertuğrul Doğan suspended 45 days in Turkish betting probe

Trabzonspor president Ertuğrul Doğan has been hit with a 45‑day suspension as part of a broad betting investigation sweeping Turkish football.

The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced that Doğan is among 148 club officials who received disciplinary measures after being found to have breached betting regulations. Specifically, 147 officials were given 45‑day bans for violating the federation's rules on gambling while performing official duties.

Scope of the probe

According to the TFF, the investigation initially led to the temporary suspension of 448 people in September and referrals to the Disciplinary Committee for Professional Football on suspicion they placed bets while carrying out their club roles. The federation said those under scrutiny had carried out functions in clubs from the first two levels of Turkish football over the past five years.

The TFF stressed that players, coaches, referees and club officials are barred from taking part in betting‑related activities under the federation's rules and the regulations of FIFA and UEFA. For the 147 officials whose violations were confirmed, the ban prevents participation in football for the duration of the suspension.

The current measures follow earlier rounds of sanctions: in November of last year a separate TFF investigation resulted in the suspension of 149 referees and 1,204 footballers.

Club officials, supporters and observers are now awaiting further disciplinary hearings, as the federation's Disciplinary Committee continues to review cases arising from the multi‑stage probe.
