Prilep held its 84th "Critical Mass" as cyclists demand connected lanes and free sidewalks

The 84th "Critical Mass" was held in Prilep, when cyclists from multiple generations once again took to the streets to demand more space for movement and equal treatment of bicycles with cars.

The initiative called for a connected bicycle network and unobstructed sidewalks

Organizers from "PrilepNaTocak" say the event is not just a social gathering, but a message to city authorities that Prilep can be "safer, cleaner and more pleasant" if the streets are made accessible to all traffic participants.

"From the youngest to pensioners, all together we show that the city can be safer, cleaner and more pleasant when there is room for all traffic participants. This is not just a ride, this is a message: we want a connected bicycle network, unobstructed sidewalks and a city in which the bicycle is an equal choice for getting around," said the initiative "PrilepNaTocak", which organized the new "Critical Mass".

They point out that the bicycle is the most suitable urban means of transport and therefore deserves adequate space. As reasons for the action they cited daily congestion, pollution, as well as occupied sidewalks that force pedestrians to walk on the street.

"(We demand) less congestion. Less pollution. A happier city. Every day we see the same congestion, the same smoke and the same wasted energy in traffic, occupied sidewalks, pedestrians on the streets, blocked streets and a blocked city. That's why we are taking to the streets again. To show that it can be different," the cycling initiative announced.
