19-year-old arrested after hit-and-run in Gjorche Petrov, Skopje

A 19-year-old man has been arrested after a hit-and-run late yesterday in the Gjorche Petrov neighbourhood of Skopje that left a 48-year-old woman seriously injured, authorities said.

“Today police officers from the Skopje police detained N.N. (19) from Skopje because yesterday at 21:20 at the intersection of Boris Sarafov and Krsto Rakovski streets in the Gjorche Petrov neighbourhood, with a passenger vehicle 'Fiat Punto' he struck 48-year-old A.S.K. from Skopje and left the scene of the incident,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs said in a statement.

The injured woman was admitted to Clinical Hospital "8 September" in Skopje, where doctors recorded serious bodily injuries.

Police actions and detention

After the collision police carried out measures to locate both the driver and the vehicle. Following the arrest, and on the instructions of the public prosecutor, the suspect was held at a police station and the car was confiscated.

The Ministry said investigators are completing the documentation of the case. Once that process is finished, the competent authorities will file an appropriate criminal report against the suspect.

Local police urged anyone who witnessed the incident or has additional information to come forward to assist the investigation.
