38-year-old detained in Macedonski Brod on suspicion of causing fire in Breznica
Police say sparks from a petrol grass trimmer started a fire on 05.09.2026 that spread to neighbouring properties; no injuries reported.

A 38-year-old man was detained on suspicion of starting a fire yesterday morning in the village of Breznica in the municipality of Macedonski Brod, police said.
Authorities say the arrest followed a report that on 05.09.2026 at about 10:00 a blaze began near the suspect’s house. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the fire originated after sparks from a petrol-powered grass trimmer ignited vegetation and then spread to neighbouring properties.
"On 05.09.2026 police officers from OVR Macedonski Brod arrested M.T.(38) from Macedonski Brod, acting on a report that on 05.09.2026 at approximately 10:00 he started a fire in the village of Breznica, Macedonski Brod, after sparks from a petrol grass trimmer near his house in Breznica caused a blaze that spread to neighboring properties," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
No injuries were reported. The blaze was extinguished by crews from the public enterprise National Forests and residents of the village, who assisted in stopping the spread.
Police indicated that, after the incident has been fully documented, appropriate charges will be filed. The detained man remains in custody while investigators complete their work.
